Practice your critical appraisal/thinking skills

Once you've identified an article for journal club it's important to critically review or appraise it. There are a number of tools you can use depending on the type of study or document you are reviewing:

Critical Appraisals Skills Programme (CASP)
CASP provides a number of free downloadable checklists for various types of studies: RCTs, Systematic Review, Qualitative, Cohort etc.
Joanna Briggs Institute (JBI) Critical Appraisal Tools
JBI provides a number of free downloadable checklists for various study types and includes a few more for Economic Evaluation, Textual Evidence: Expert Opinion, Narrative and Policy etc.
Center for Evidence Based Medicine (CEBM) - Critical Appraisal tools
CEBM offers a number of free checklists for various study types in languages other than English.
Catalogue of Bias
CEBM and University of Oxford provide this handy catalogue of biases.
Critically Appraising for Antiracism Tool
Tool developed by Medical Librarian Ramona Naicker in response to investigating how racial bias can influence study outcomes and conclusions.
