Finding articles

Searching for articles

You can find articles by searching the Library catalogue or one the databases such as MEDLINE or PubMed.

Tips when searching medical databases
  • Create your own, free account within the database so you can save your search.
  • Use boolean operators - AND, OR, NOT - to improve your search.
  • For more advanced searching, always check the Help section on the database (different databases use different symbols for wildcards for truncation etc)
Tips when searching the Library catalogue
  • Search the exact title of the article, or use keywords.
  • Click on the radio button next to 'Articles' to narrow your results to journal articles only.
  • Put the article title in quotation marks "Management of fatigue in patients with cancer"
  • You can also search on the name of the journal that the article appeared in, and then browse through the volumes to the edition you require.
  • Use the Advanced Search link to have more control over your search.

See our Searching for the full text of an article page for more information and tips.
If you need assistance on your search strategies, see the tab on the left of this page, 'Help with literature searching'.

Print articles

Not all articles are available online. Your search result may return the name of the article but there is no link to the full text. Click on 'More Details' in the search result to see if the journal is listed as being in our print collection.
Print journals are available to read, photocopy or scan in the Library, but are not available for loan.

Articles not in our catalogue

If an article (or book) is not in our catalogue you can submit an inter-library loan request and we will try and get it from another library for you. You can submit this request directly from the Library catalogue, PubMed, or by submitting a form.
See our Request a book or article page for more information.

Being asked to pay for an article

You will never be asked to pay for an article when searching the Austin Library collections. If you are prompted for payment, go to the Library website and redo your search in the Library catalogue.

Never enter your Library username and password on any website other than one you have accessed via the Library website or catalogue.
Contact the Library for further assistance.
